Jacy Douglas and Tracey Jones have been coworkers at Parkside School in rural Cullman County for fourteen years. Jacy teaches seventh and eighth grade English Language Arts, while Tracey teaches math. In the summer of 2017, the two began the project of transforming their middle school hallway into a modified version of Hogwarts, the fictional wizarding school made famous by the Harry Potter series of books and films created by JK Rowling. In 2018, they began sharing pictures of their progress on social media. The story was picked up by several national and international news outlets, including now-viral videos by social media giants Buzzfeed and NowThis News. Their work eventually gained the attention of Ms. Rowling herself, who arranged for the stars of her latest wizarding world movie (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald) to visit the faculty and students at Parkside School. To date, their work has been seen by millions of people worldwide, and has inspired students at their small, rural school to dream big.
